THE HO PROJECT

The Tandem Education Initiative was established on a collaborative work of students from the University of British Columbia and Sciences Po Paris. The project was initiated in early 2014, from the desire to institute a long term and efficient program, which would provide assistance to Junior high school students located in different parts of the world.

The students involved in this project are in the academic fields of Politics and Economics. We share strong interest and passion in the field of Development and Sustainability Economics. Our main goal was to establish a system in which we could pass on the knowledge and skills that we have acquired during our university career.

This led us to the launch of Tandem, which is a one-to-one educational relationship between a student from high ranking universities and a Junior high school pupil who necessitates a tutor. In order to achieve our goal, we came up with a Ho project, which is to provide several Ghanaian Junior high school students with a sustainable support program. This program provides an efficient system for online tutoring to connect the high school students with UBC students.

For the start, our partner Adanu has selected six students among different schools located in Ho, which is located in the Volta region of Ghana. The students are from the ages of 11 to 17 years old and are currently enrolled in junior high school. The students will be tutored in the disciplines of English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science. Each student in Ho will be paired with a UBC student who will become his tutor/mentor, guiding him through his difficulties in his studies. Our members include Sampson, Tabitha, Judith, Edwin, Gideon and Andy.

The tandem initiative is a unique collaborative effort that aims to connect students from Ghana and UBC to establish a fun and safe learning environment, which will foster intellectual growth and information sharing. The Ho project is a pilot project, in which we hope to one day expand to connect students from all over the world.

So help us and get involved!
